Welcome to

Phenomenal Physical Education
and Health
with
Ms. Newman

My name is Ali Newman and I am the PE and Health teacher here at Queen of Apostles Catholic School.. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Dance and through this degree I studied Childhood Education, Anatomy and Physiology as well as many theatre courses. I have enjoyed a career in the fitness industry as a Personal Trainer and aerobics instructor for fifteen years. I competed in aerobics both regionally and nationally and am a silver and bronze medallist for the Mid-Atlantic Region.

I very much enjoy working with children and this year, I will be working with them on their physical fitness as well as developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I plan to accomplish this through different monthly activities and a nutrition awareness program. I have asked the children in grades 4-8 to keep a Dietary Journal in which they are to keep a record of everything they eat and drink for one week. I ask them to do this for the first week of each quarter so they may become more aware of what they are consuming. I am also working with the philosophies of Don Hellison and Curt Hinson which focus on incorporating themes of personal and social responsibility into PE instruction.

Since I only meet with the students one class period a week, I need your help to reinforce at home what they are learning in school. I want to work with all of you to keep your children physically fit and healthy.

Thank you so much for your support and acceptance. I will be communicating with you on a regular basis through the Friday envelopes and you can also look up information on the web site.
