Third grade is an exciting year for the
children. They are starting to ‘read to learn', and there
is much to learn. The children begin taking notes, making
report ‘webs' and writing about famous people and events.
Math begins to get more challenging as they will begin learning
multiplication. Our science curriculum includes learning about
mass, volume, plants, etc. In Social Studies we learn about
all the regions in the United States, and how people lived in
the Colonial Days.
In November we have ‘Pilgrim Days' where
the students dress as pilgrims and ‘live' as men, women, and children
lived during the early years in the colonies.
In February we have our annual Parade of
States assembly for the entire school. Each student researches
and reports on one state and constructs a float about the state.
Another wonderful event for the third grade
is the annual Famous Person's Tea Party. Each student researches
a famous person and dresses up as that person for "High Tea".
They draw portraits of the person they have chosen and delineate
and illustrate his or her life through a ‘timeline'. The parents
and family are invited to our Tea Party to enjoy ‘tea and treats',
and to learn about all the famous individuals. Throughout
the year, the children participate in several activities with
their first grade prayer partners.
